Dr. William D. Troutt
Dr. Troutt is a naturopathic medical doctor, specializing in cannabis-based medicine and treatment, and Director of Medical Education of Harvest House of Cannabis dispensaries.
Since 2010, Dr. Troutt has worked exclusively in the cannabis industry and has consulted with thousands of cannabis patients, providing extensive practical experience in safe and effective cannabis use and cannabis treatment. In addition to providing director of medical education services, he serves as the Medical Director for nine Harvest of Arizona dispensaries like Scottsdale, Tucson, Tempe and Casa Grande.
Dr. Troutt was the first medical director of a state-licensed medical cannabis retail store in Arizona and has worked at Harvest to develop and deliver cannabis training to every Harvest employee. He creates educational materials and protocols for employees, customers, patients and their caregivers and regularly leads informal lectures and discussions with patients on cannabis varieties and uses. Topics include cannabis therapy and the senior population and cannabis uses for epilepsy, cancer, seizure disorders, inflammation and chronic pain.
In addition to providing guidance to patients, Dr. Troutt is a leader in scientific research on cannabis-based medicine and medical benefits of cannabis . He is a co-founder of the Medical Marijuana Research Institute, a scientific organization dedicated to better understanding the therapeutic effects of cannabis and disseminating that research to the academic community. To date, Dr. Troutt has first-authored two studies in peer-reviewed academic journals. The first, published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, established the successful use of cannabis to treat several medical conditions and correlated legalization of cannabis use to many positive effects on patient outcomes. The second study, published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, examined the carcinogenic byproducts of vaporizing popular thinning agents used in cannabis products, such as cartridges containing cannabis oil. In 1999, He graduated magna cum laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. In 2004, he graduated from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine specializing in botanical and natural medicines.
Dr. Troutt has been studying and advocating for the cannabis plant as a valuable resource for over 3 decades. Furthering cannabis education, marijuana treatment, and community health is his mission.
Dr. Troutt has consulted with and presented to thousands of medical cannabis patients, top physicians, researchers, public servants and industry leaders on a wide array of medical cannabis issues and medical uses of cannabis.
